As part of its Québec Bridge rehabilitation plan, The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) will begin repair, cleaning and painting work on various steel components of the structure this year, from April through December 2026.
This work involves reinforcing steel components as well as cleaning and painting the bracing on the spans over the St. Lawrence River, on the Lévis side. Similar work is to be carried out on the portal bracing, also on the South Shore side. Note that bracings consist of structural components that ensure the bridge resistance to horizontal forces such as wind, impacts and seismic shocks.
The $19.8 million contract was awarded to Stellaire Construction Inc. This company, which specializes in civil engineering, has completed various major projects on several important infrastructures, including the Pierre Laporte Bridge and the Jacques Cartier Bridge. Worksite supervision will be carried out by the engineering company Stantec.
Summary of work begun in 2025
Since being tasked with managing the Québec Bridge structure in 2024, JCCBI has carried out various rehabilitation works, mainly on the South Shore section of the bridge.
At the time, approximately 25 workers were at work under the bridge deck, mainly on the main girders. The work mainly involved sandblasting, replacing damaged or corroded steel parts, and painting.
